Parish Life at St. Peters
- Our Volunteers Make It Happen!

The operation and success of any church family requires the time and dedication of volunteers to provide needed services that otherwise would not be covered in the operating budget. All of these ministries are vital to the continued operation of the parish and we have teams of dedicated volunteers that provide valuable services to the parish.

Pastoral Care Commission - St. Peter's has a number of opportunities for volunteers to minister to those in our parish family that are ill or have had a sudden change in their living circumstances as result of illness, injury, or other emotional trauma.

Building and Grounds - Volunteers assist the Junior Warden and Sexton in maintaining the building as well as assisting with coordination of projects that involves the church structure and their contents. These tasks are often beyond the scope of standard building maintenance provided by our property manager. The Garden Committee works closely with the buildings and grounds committee in maintaining and improving our gardens at the front and side of the church.

Parish Office Volunteers - The parish office needs a full slate of volunteers on a continuous basis for a variety of tasks. Answering the phone and providing general office assistance are a great way to become involved.

Holy Chow - One of our most popular ways to get to know each other is via our Sunday morning breakfasts, called Holy Chow. Each weekend from the end of August through the end of May, dedicated groups of volunteers prepare and serve breakfast in our parish hall on the second floor, from approximately 8:45am to 10:00am. A nominal fee is charged for each person, with a family maximum of $6.00.

Coffee Hour on Sundays - Coffee and lemonade are served after the 11:00am service each week. We gather in our garden during the warm weather months or in the gallery behind the sanctuary if it's cold or wet. This is a great opportunity to meet and greet friends, old and new, and for visitors to learn more about St. Peter's. Teams of Coffee Hour hosts are scheduled to serve every six weeks.

Small Group Dinners Throughout the year, parish members gather for a meal and fellowship at a member's home. These gatherings usually have a maximum of 6-8 people and are simply an opportunity to stop and enjoy each other's company away from the daily bustle of life. Groups are organized each September and January via a sign-up sheet in the parish office and meet 2-3 times, rotating the host's home. The members of the group change each time. The Small Group Dinners provide an intimate setting in which to develop friendships.

Newcomer's Luncheons Once a month, our rector and his wife graciously host a luncheon at their home after the 11:00am service for visitors to Saint Peter's that are thinking about joining, and for brand new members. A short walk from Saint Peter's, these luncheons are announced by the rector and directions are provided. No reservations are needed -- you're welcome to come!

Annual Spring Picnic St. Peter's hosts the Spring Fling, our annual parish picnic, usually held in mid to late spring. Parishioners get to relax and enjoy themselves in an informal setting, typically a local park or other easily reached venue. Games for the kids and adults, dancing, bicycle riding, and grilling are all part of the fun. Done in a "pot-luck" style, the food and fun are tremendous.
