ParishLife The St. Peter's Parish Life committee coordinates fellowship activities throughout the year to help foster the bonds of friendship and service in our members. Often our service initiatives have a fellowship component as well, to help strengthen the bonds of our parish family. There are numerous special receptions, small dinner groups, weekend retreats, etc. that are managed by the Parish Life committee.

Holy Chow One of our most popular ways to get to know each other is via our Sunday morning breakfasts, called Holy Chow. Each weekend from the end of August through the end of May, dedicated groups of volunteers prepare and serve breakfast in our parish hall on the second floor, from approximately 8:45am to 10:00am. A nominal fee is charged for each person, with a family maximum of $6.00.

Coffee Hour Coffee and lemonade are served after the 11:00am service each week. We gather in our garden during the warm weather months or in the gallery behind the sanctuary if it's cold or wet. This is a great opportunity to meet and greet friends, old and new, and for visitors to learn more about St. Peter's. Teams of Coffee Hour hosts are scheduled to serve every six weeks.

Small Group Dinners Throughout the year, parish members gather for a meal and fellowship at a member's home. These gatherings usually have a maximum of 6-8 people and are simply an opportunity to stop and enjoy each other's company away from the daily bustle of life. Groups are organized each September and January via a sign-up sheet in the parish office and meet 2-3 times, rotating the host's home. The members of the group change each time. The Small Group Dinners provide an intimate setting in which to develop friendships.

The Holy Chow CrewZIP code parties At times, Saint Peter's hosts ZIP code parties that serve as opportunities for members of our parish that live in the same areas of the city to gather. These parties provide fellowship and a further chance to get to know one another as neighbors. These gatherings usually occur on Sunday afternoons and are informal.

Newcomer's Luncheons Once a month, our rector and his wife graciously host a luncheon at their home after the 11:00am service for visitors to Saint Peter's that are thinking about joining, and for brand new members. A short walk from Saint Peter's, these luncheons are announced by the rector and directions are provided. No reservations are needed -- you're welcome to come!

Annual Parish Weekend at Kanuga Saint Peter's hosts a weekend-long retreat to the North Carolina mountains at Kanuga, the conference and retreat center for the Western Diocese of North Carolina, located in Flat Rock, NC. Normally held in the early fall, the annual retreat to Kanuga is a wonderful time for physical and spiritual renewal, while providing plenty of time to play and enjoy each other's company. A slate of activities is planned but there is ample time to just relax and take in the beautiful scenery.

canoeingAnnual Spring Picnic Saint Peter's hosts the Spring Fling, our annual parish picnic, usually held in mid to late spring. Parishioners get to relax and enjoy themselves in an informal setting, typically a local park or other easily reached venue. Games for the kids and adults, dancing, bicycle riding, and grilling are all part of the fun. Done in a "pot-luck" style, the food and fun are tremendous.

Youth-specific opportunities for fellowship occur throughout the year. The Annual Spaghetti Dinner is always a big hit, and the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper is popular with all ages. And everyone eagerly awaits the Advent Fair each year!

In Guides, fourth and fifth graders gather monthly during the school year for lunch and games in "The Underground" (our basement) and often enjoy additional activities off-site such as bowling, movies, bike trips, etc.

Annual Spaghetti DinnerOur older children can participate in the age-appropriate trips that are part of the Journey to Adulthood curriculum. Some of these are our Urban Adventure trip to a major metropolitan area, a snow ski weekend trip and a spring trip to the North Carolina coast. They are also encouraged to attend the Parish Weekend at Kanuga. This popular weekend fosters the spirit and friendships of our parish family and celebrates the gifts given to us by God.

We also have a strong youth choir and an acolyte program that help teach children and teens the power and beauty of our church liturgies. Each program has a dedicated and seasoned group of volunteers that teach the children on many levels about corporate worship and their participation in all kinds of services. Please contact the church office at (704) 332-7746 if you would like to know more.

St. Peter's is located at the corner of Seventh and Tryon Streets. Free parking is available to all church members and church visitors in the TransAmerica parking deck on Seventh Street, across from the Parish Hall entrance to the church.
