Knocking on Heaven's Door

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN NEWS

A red door beckons you to enter a heavenly refuge in the heart of Charlotte. As you enter the historic structure of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, you encounter a sublime sanctuary of worship, community, spiritual formation and ministry.

St. Peter's will officially launch its "Knocking on Heaven's Door" capital campaign in January 2008. Pledges to the campaign will support needed renovations to the church and replacement of an aging pipe organ.

Our goal is to raise $3.5 - $ 4 million. A tithe of ten percent of funds raised will be dedicated to an outreach fund that will serve to build upon and strengthen the commitment of community outreach, especially to those in need, that is central to our mission as a parish.

We know everyone is eager to learn more about the exciting projects planned for the parish that will be supported by the “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” Capital Campaign.

A MESSAGE FROM BILL WILLIAMSON, CAMPAIGN CHAIR

At St. Peter's Episcopal Church, we cherish our place in the past, present and future of Charlotte. We take our work to heart: providing spiritual sanctuary in the center of our city, tending to those in need, and sharing the gift of music. This is a time of celebration as we begin to experience the extraordinary opportunity to answer the call to help St. Peter's remain a doorway to God's work and worship. I am honored to serve as chairman of the campaign and am pleased to report that we have recruited a strong cabinet. Each individual is committed and talented and has accepted the challenge of leading this important effort. We are looking forward to working together with everyone in the parish to ensure St. Peter's future for today and generations to come.

In terms of solicitations, one of our first objectives is to achieve full participation from the Vestry and the campaign cabinet. We are appreciative of the leadership already being shown by the Vestry and campaign cabinet in pledging to the capital campaign. We have now begun soliciting some early, key gifts as well. Each of us who has been connected with this phase of the campaign has been heartened by the extremely positive responses we have received. I am aware that there are many, many worthwhile not-for-profit organizations competing for your hard earned dollars but, if we don't take this on, who else will? I hope you will agree that it is our turn and I trust you will join me so that, together, we can make a meaningful mark on our church's history.
