St. Peter's was founded in 1834 as the first Episcopal Mission in Charlotte at a time when Mecklenburg County was composed of a series of small villages. In 1857, St. Peter's moved to the current location at the corner of Seventh and Tryon Streets. Unfortunately, the church burned in 1890 but was replaced in 1892 with the structure that proudly sits there today. We are currently in the process of renovating and restoring our wonderful building to preserve it for generations to come. As the city of Charlotte has grown, so has St. Peters, providing the community with a large body of contributions that have been examples of lasting achievements through faith, courage, and ceaseless devotion to Christian causes. St. Peter's has been an integral part of the development and renewal of the downtown Charlotte community.
Saint Peter's is often used for weddings, baptisms, and funerals for both our standing members and for members of our larger city family who may not have a direct affiliation. Please contact the church office and arrange an appointment to visit with our Rector to discuss your particular situation. Meet the staff at St. Peter's. We are here to assist you!
